Membership Questions
How old do I have to be to Join?
Applicants must be at least 16 years of age to become a Junior Member (with the approval of a legal guardian)
Where do I turn in my Membership Application?
Once complete you will submit your application to the Chief or Designated Officer of the Fire Company closest to your home address. By filling out the electronic Join Amelia VFD form located on this website, your interest and information will be given the Fire Company that applies to you.

How do I receive firefighter training?
Members receive training through both Formal and Informal methods (generally at no cost to the member).
Informal training is received through scheduled training events conducted by each of 5 Fire Companies throughout Amelia and in combination with other surrounding localities.
Formal Training is offered and certified through the Virginia Dept of Fire Programs and these costs are covered by Amelia VFD. These certifications are recognized by Virginia.
Note* If members choose to attend conferences and other workshops (Ex: FDIC and other HOT training) Costs for these events will be the responsibility of each member unless approved by Amelia VFD Fire Board.
What will I be expected to do?
Fireground responsibilities and assignments are based on member qualification and knowledge level. These assignments can range from Logistical Support to Interior Fire Attack and Incident Command.
How do I qualify to drive a truck?
For a member to become qualified to drive ANY fire apparatus, they must be 21 years old and hold a Virginia State EVOC License. Approval to operate each vehicle will be given by the Officer Team of each station once the member has demonstrated they are capable of driving and operating all functions of the apparatus.

What are the Burn Laws in Amelia?
The 4pm Burn Law is in effect from Feb. 15th - April 30th every year.
This law prohibits open-air burning before 4 PM if the fire is within 300 feet of woods or dry grass.
Burning is allowed between 4 PM and midnight, but you must take precautions and attend the fire at all times.
Can the Fire Dept assist with filling my pool?
Unfortunately No. Fire apparatus, while capable of transporting water, must remain available and ready for emergency response throughout the county.
